Face Lift

A facelift improves the appearance of your face, which becomes more firm and looks refreshed. This is achieved by removing excess skin from the neck, chin and cheek areas as well as smoothing out and tightening the tissue underneath. Facelift can be combined with other procedures such as facial liposuction or eyelid correction as it cannot eliminate sagging eyebrows or deep forehead lines.

Who is it for?

Facelift surgery is suitable for anybody experiencing saggy skin in the face or neck area, whose skin maintains some elasticity and whose face has strong and well-defined structure. The surgery is most popular among forty to sixty years old patients, but can be successfully carried out on older patients as well.

The procedure eliminates sagginess resulting in a youthful refreshed look, but it cannot restore skin’s vitality and overall health.

There are several of methods to carry out a facelift surgery. Our surgeons will discuss what method is right for you during your consultations, as various procedures have their advantages for different people.

In general, face lift surgery usually takes several hours or longer depending on what other procedures you are having done at the same time.

The exact placement of incisions and the sequence of events depend on your facial structure and your surgeon's technique. Traditional facelift involves making an incision that follows the hairline; starting at the temple and following around the ear and then behind it, usually ending close to the hairline on the back of the neck. If the skin around the jawline or neck needs correction, the incisions are made under the chin, too. After the incisions are made, the surgeon separates the skin from the fat tissue and muscles below. The fat is removed or redistributed, the muscles are tightened, the skin is pulled back and excess is trimmed. The incisions are then sutured or stapled. To minimize post-surgery swelling and bruising, the bandages are placed around the face and tubes inserted to drain the fluids.

Recovery time

Recovery time after facelift surgery depends on overall health of the patient. Usually after one-two days the patient is discharged but has to avoid certain activities. The bandages are removed after couple of days, the stitches after approximately five days. Metal clips, if used, are removed after two weeks. Total recovery time is roughly estimated to two - three weeks and it depends on patient’s health. The initial swelling and bruising subsides and the incision lines are healed completely after several months. They will naturally merge with the hairline and contours of the face resulting in a younger, refreshed looking skin.
